I am so happy that I can announce this now. Last month I participated in a popular twitter event called #DIVPIT (Diversity Pitch) where unagented authors like myself make tweets pitching what our stories are about. Agents then read our pitches and if they like us, will ask for a full request or offer representation. Well the event worked because I am happy to announce...
As of today, I am thrilled to say that I am represented by Leah Pierre of Ladderbird Literary Agency! She loved a manuscript that I haven't really talked about that much, but is deeply important to me. The manuscript is called Operation: Get Rid of Dave, a picture book about a POC boy named Andre who is shocked to learn that his father is dating a Caucasian man named Dave. Believing that Dave doesn't belong in the family, he cooks up some Home Alone style schemes to scare Dave away. Unfortunately, Andre has a twin sister who loves Dave to death and will do anything in her power to protect him. It's a story of love, family, understanding, and realizing prejudices in ourselves.
Now, as excited as I am to be a part of Ladderbird and work with Leah, we still have a LONG way to go. Getting an agent is only the fist of many steps and is in no way a guarantee that this book will see publication, although I have a very strong feeling it will ( wink-wink). Not only are we going to work full force on this manuscript, but we will also be working on my other manuscripts including my wonderful book-children Taio & Regit, Pawn, and my latest early draft, Rumblesaur. This also gives me the opportunity to work on my teen adventure book that I will discuss at a later time.
It's been an amazing week, and I can't wait to keep you all updated. Thank you so much for your wonderful support! If you want to learn more about my agency, here's a link!
